This is an organization that is being formed by members of the Sikh Community, to help us organize and give back to the country that has given us so much.
The purposes of the group are to: 1. Live up to the meaning "Seva" (service to others) by helping those less fortunate than we are 2. Give Sikh Canadians a chance to work together as a group 3. Increase awareness of our community within the larger Canadian society.
Our short-term plan is to partner with different agencies serving the impoverished in the GTA, to learn what they do, how they do it, and what needs are not currently being met.
Longer-term, our goal is to establish an institution that will be in existence as long as it is needed. This may take the form of a Food Bank, a Soup Kitchen, a Service Center providing various services to underserved populations, or a combination of the above.
Over the next few months, we will be meeting to volunteer, as well as to set the direction of the group for the future. Please feel free to share your thoughts and ideas with us.
There's so much more that can be said - but actions speak louder than words.
